The 2008 Geneva Concours d'Elegance is a premier automobile shows bringing together over 200 automobiles aligning the downtown historic streets of Geneva, Illinois.
/Recreational Vehicles News Articles/ - GENEVE, IL, July 27, 2008 - The 2008 Geneva Concours d'Elegance is a premier automobile shows bringing together over 200 automobiles aligning the downtown historic streets of Geneva, Illinois from Third Street to South Street on Sunday, August 24, 2008. This event is free and open to the public beginning at 10:00 am, and attendees will see some of the most beautiful cars in the world. Whether you're a car enthusiast or just looking for an exciting family event, there will be something for everyone to enjoy.
The highlight of this year's event, 'Reflections of a Winner' will be presented by Jeff Mahl, great grandson of George N. Schuster, the winning driver of that legendary race. "Reflections of a Winner" is scheduled at the Geneva History Center on Saturday, August 23rd at 2:30 pm and Sunday, August 24, at 11:30 am. Limited tickets priced at $20 per person may be purchased at the History Center, at 113 Third Street across from the old Kane County Court House.
The mission of the Geneva Concours d'Elegance is produce the best classic, exotic and race automobile event that showcases the heritage, artistic, and engineering significance of the automobile in the surroundings of historic, Geneva, Illinois. A Gala Dinner and Auction benefiting the American Diabetes Association (ADA) is scheduled at 6:00 pm on Saturday, August 23 at Isabella's Estiatorio featuring a chef's dinner, silent auction, a performance by Grammy nominated jazz vocalist Margaret Carlson, and an exclusive showing of classic automobiles on Fourth Street, downtown Geneva. "Each year, the Concours Gala benefits a local charity, and this year all funds will stay in the Northern Illinois area helping children and adults with diabetes," said Zellmer.
Concours Director and Registrar, John Barrett, has owned and raced vintage cars and has been involved with the Concours for years. "This event is good for the area and really showcases the top level of automobiles that have been restored to their original glory," he said. This is a judged event, and cars will receive scores by a qualified panel of judges. "The craftsmanship on these cars is incredible and the individuals or teams that work on them are proud to show the cars off to those who stop by" he added.
Traditionally, vehicle judging at a Concours d'Elegance is much more demanding than a neighborhood or general car show. Trained judges examine the vehicle thoroughly and in its entirety, rating each and every component considered trophy class. At this Concours, "best of the best" are awarded the beautiful "Carl F. Benz trophy".
The Geneva Concours d'Elegance has been attracting thousands of spectators yearly since its inception in 2004. This year would not be an exception with its featured marque, the Pierce Arrow, best known for it's expensive luxury cars.
